THE MAN IN THE VELVET SUIT
BILLY WILLIAMS

Historic recordings remastered

Billy Williams was Australia's first "pop" recording star, and made hundreds of records for several companies. He is still a cult figure for collectors all over the world, and songs such as "When Father papered the parlour" were often heard into the 1960s. Here are 23 songs, recorded between 1907 and 1914, selected from original records in the National Film and Sound Archive.

"The perfect recording artist... unwavering quality... all these recordings have been transferred sympathetically and the... booklet provides an informative extra. A good foot-tapping introduction to one of Australia's greatest recording artists, this CD will undoubtedly treat you to songs and information for your enjoyment. You certainly get a good deal for your money" - Howard F. Martin ("For the Record") For full review click here

tracks:

John John put your trousers on
The taximeter car
The hobnailed boots that Father wore
Tickle me, Timothy!
Put a bit of powder on it, Father
Little Willie's Woodbines
I must go home tonight
Girls of today
The land where the women wear the trousers
I've found Kelly
When Father papered the parlour
St Kilda
Let's have a song upon the Gramophone
Chanticleer
I never heard Father laugh so much before
Take me where there are no eyes about
She does like a little bit of Scotch
It's a grand old song
The kangaroo hop
Wait till I'm as old as Father
The ragtime wedding
There must be something nice about the Isle of Man
There's life in the old dog yet
