Brandon Music to host a Jazz Fest Weekend

Brandon, VT -

As part of an ever growing and diverse program of live music,  Brandon Music announces its forthcoming Jazz Fest Weekend on October 21 and 22.

The Jazz Fest will open with the accomplished international jazz artist Joe Fonda and his group on Friday, October 21.  Joe Fonda is recognized as a leading light in the New York jazz scene and has an impressive array of performance talents ranging from composer and bassist to multidisciplinary performer and educator. Fonda is perhaps best known as Anthony Braxton's bassist of choice for much of the 90s and co-leader of the Fonda-Stevens Group.  A native of the small town of Amsterdam in Upstate New York, Fonda grew up interested in blues-rock and at first took guitar lessons, progressed to electric bass and eventually started playing acoustic upright.   With Joe will be pianist Michael Jefrey Stevens  and Harvey Sorgen on drums.    Their set will be fronted by outstanding German vocalist Nicole Metzger, who has appeared as vocalist and bandleader in several countries as well as recording several CDs and lecturing on the art of jazz vocals.

Joe Fonda has a vast array of recordings in his portfolio including a disc with the amazing Jazz singer Katie Bull, and has been a regular visitor to Brandon for several years, often performing at the Gallery in the Field, and indeed this concert is being presented in conjunction  the generous support of Fran Bull.

The weekend continues with an exciting jazz programme on Saturday October  22 nd  featuring bassist John Menegon and pianist/vocalist Teri Roiger, both of whom appeared earlier this year  with Jonathan Lorentz at the Brandon Music Café.

John Menegon too is firmly part of the New York Jazz scene.  He started his career as a jazz bassist in Montreal and after working with many of the great guitarists and saxophonists there he moved to NYC in the mid 80s and ended up on a full scholarship at Long Island University to study jazz.  Menegon continues to perform with many of the jazz greats including the legendary David ‘Fathead' Newman and Dewy Redman.  His music portfolio includes CDs Soul Advice (2005) and Searchlight (2004).  His solo performances are described as “the perfect confluence of rhythmic intention and melodic conception”.

Menegon's  regular performance partner Teri Roiger is also featuring on the 22nd.  Teri has built her reputation from New York to Paris.  She has been described as “singing at the intersection of Abbey Lincoln, Billie Holiday and Anita O'Day”.  She launched her career at 13 as a church organist and ensemble singer.  Her jazz career took off when she attracted the attention of Butch Thompson and soon the two formed a duo and toured jazz festivals and clubs throughout the US and Europe.  She later founded Jazz in the Mountains with Menegon, an ongoing jazz workshop and concert series in Woodstock, NY.  The duo are currently recording their latest album.

Both concerts commence at 7.30 pm, and tickets are $15.   A joint pass for both concerts is available for a discounted $25 (must be prepaid).  Seating is limited and reservations are strongly recommended.

Previous performers of modern jazz at Brandon Music Café have praised the venue's unique ambience and phenomenal acoustics, making it the prime spot for live music.
