What's Happening at Brandon Music?
A short summary of events and developments
The new exhibit of paintings by Ruth Hamilton is wonderful. It is now open at The Gallery until February 29, 2012. Paintings are already selling so be sure to call soon.
NEWSFLASH: (September) We recently acquired one of the two remaining buildings at the former Brandon Training School, (see photo1 - photo2 ) and plan to build, over the next 2-3 years, a major music and arts center which will house our own business and many facilities for visual artists, musicians and the arts. Apart from our own commercial office, the center (which will be named Compass Music and Arts Center) is to be funded and managed through a nonprofit foundation. More details will follow, and we will be inviting inquiries from prospective tenants, franchisees and partners for the provision and management of various services. Most of the project will be timelined for 2012-3 but we are seeking as part of the first phase to let two small self contained units suitable for retail, office or (quiet) studio/workshop, also to seek partner to run take-out sandwich and food service. GET IN TOUCH. The temporary Compass website can be found here.
Our concerts are listed below and we'll be adding more events regularly. The Music Cafe is open from NOON to 5.30 pm each day (except Tuesday). NOW OPEN FOR LUNCHES as well as afternoon tea.
Also check out the events calendar and for detailed news on CD releases (audio samples, artist profiles, track lists and reviews) go to the Divine Art Recordings page. You can see photos from past events on the calendar too. Audiences for our recent classical and jazz concerts have been wowed by the quality of the music and of the superb acoustics and atmosphere in the music cafe. We aim to be the region's best small venue! Don't forget - our building is also available for private functions, meetings and just as a private getaway when you feel stressed. We regularly host the book club, chess club and ladies' knitting circle - if you want a regular meeting place do call us! We have hosted several children's parties, a bridal shower, chess tournament... and we would very much like to welcome some of our young neighbors - teens: come and visit.
For record collectors, we now stock 45rpm record center inserts, and steel needles (in three grades) for acoustic phonographs. Click 'Phonograph Room' button and find our accessories page. More to come!
We will have our online store for collector's vinyl/78s too - meanwhile you can see these at our store, or online at GEMM
Did you know that the music chosen by Prince William and Kate Middleton for the Royal Wedding was first recorded by us - with the composer conducting. The CD is now available, also as a download in our digital store, or iTunes, Amazon etc. Called 'Ubi Caritas' in the Wedding Service, hear the original words of this beautiful piece, real title 'Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal', by Paul Mealor - see here for info.
NEW SHEET MUSIC: We have just published 'Two Balkan Dances' for solo guitar by Greek composer Smaro Gregoriadou. Lovely and very inventive. Also two lovely guitar miniatures by Jonathan Richards. Check out our sheet music section here
THE GALLERY - The Warren Kimble exhibition has now closed and we are planning the new series of shows in conjunction with the planned opening of the new Compass Arts Center.
