In 1955, the American Broadcasting and Paramount Theaters Company formed a record division called Am-Par (officially changed in 1961 to ABC-Paramount Records). After corporate reorganization, the new American Broadcasting Network renamed the label simply ABC. It had no connection with Paramount Records (qv) owned by Paramount Pictures Corp., until both were eventually absorbed into MCA and thence Universal Music. ABC also issued Dunhill, and a few UK releases on ABC Westminster (qv).
