Brandon Music presents a Concert for Recorder, Flute and Piano

 

Brandon, VT -
Brandon Music welcomes recorderist and flutist Anna Laufenberg and pianist Stefan Simrock at 7:30pm on September 17. Organized chronologically, the concert will begin with works from the late Renaissance and Baroque eras, featuring a range of voices from the recorder family – popular instruments of the time. Laufenberg performs the soprano, alto and G-alto recorders on works by Robert Woodcock, Jacob van Eyck and Arcangelo Corelli. Moving to the classical, romantic and contemporary periods, the flute will appear as it did when the recorder lost popularity in the 19 th century, with works by Jardany Pal, Emile Pessard, Eugene Bozza and Christopher Caliendo. Simrock will also perform solo piano works by Alessandro Scarlatti and Beethoven.

Leading International Violinist to Play in Brandon, Vermont

Peter Sheppard Skærved is the only living violinist to have performed on the violins of Niccolò Paganini, Joseph Joachim and G B Viotti. He is the dedicatee of over 400 works for violin, by composers including Hans Werner Henze, Poul Ruders, David Matthews, Judith Weir and George Rochberg. In a rare not-to-be-missed appearance, the highly acclaimed violinist will be performing at the Compass Music and Arts Center in Brandon. The John Funkhouser Quartet at Brandon Music

“Complex rhythms, deep soulful moments, rock and passion and sensitivity” is how Bebop Spoken Here describes the John Funkhouser Quartet. With influences as wide ranging as Woody Guthrie, Thelonious Monk, Frank Zappa, Frederic Chopin, Ravi Shankar, and Abdullah Ibrahim, the Quartet is a band of Musicians without Borders. Funkhouser's latest compositions flow from a new influence – his recent tour of South Africa. Each of Funkhouser's expansive compositions inhabits a unique universe, while the band seamlessly integrates composed music with improvisation into what Bop-n-Jazz.com describes as “a whirling dervish of sound and light”. Swing Dancing Classes in Brandon

Celebrate the Latin American and Spanish Song at Brandon Music with 8 Cuerdas

 

Brandon, VT -
As the 8 Cuerdas duo, American soprano Sarah Cullins and Colombian guitarist Daniel Gaviria combine their classical training and experience with their love of traditional Latin American and Spanish rhythms and folklore, exploring the multiple musical identities of Latin America and the origin of many of its influences, the Iberian Peninsula. The duo will present a beautiful program at Brandon Music on May 28 celebrating Spanish and Latin American classical song, including audience favorites such as Heitor Villa-Lobos' haunting ‘Bachianas Brasilerias' and Joaquín Rodrigo's romantic ‘Aranjuez, Ma Pensee'. Acclaimed songwriter, Rupert Wates, performs at Brandon Music

Animals come to Brandon Music with Arioso's ‘Zoologica'

 

Brandon, VT -
Central Vermont's critically and audience acclaimed chamber music ensemble returns to Brandon Music on March 26 at 7:30pm with a concert of varied and entertaining music for piano, voice, and viola. Arioso will perform music of Granados, Ives, Saint-Saens, Shostakovich, Hoiby and Vermont composer Kathy Eddy. All the works on the program have an animal title or theme. The featured work is the premiere of “A Child's Book of Animals” by Worcester composer Michael Close. The success of Close's last year's Cheese Songs, led him to create for Arioso a song cycle which includes sinuous melodies of Octopus, a rapping Swan, the Seagull's fishing expedition, and the somnolent philosophy of the Sloth. It is the mission of Arioso to highlight new works by contemporary Vermont composers in all the group's concerts.

Vermont Virtuosi presents ‘Once Upon a Time' at Brandon Music
